What is osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS)?
ODS (formerly central pontine myelinolysis) is a devastating neurological complication caused by overcorrection of chronic hyponatraemia. It occurs when rapid sodium correction triggers osmotic fluid shifts that destroy the myelin sheaths of central pontine neurons.
